Picture a storefront that is bare as an empty pool with no water. The window has no showcase pieces, no sale signs, no glaring merchandise begging to be sold. Instead it sits empty more likely to send people away, then to invite them in to shop. This is a situation that doesn’t just happen in the physical world, it often occurs in online shops as well. Not just any online shops, but eBay listings to be specific.
The way your listing looks to others is a sure tell sign of the type of salesmen you are, and what type of quality products you are offering. Never so true has this theory been then when it pertains to eBooks, and other information products. You must know that selling eBooks online takes trust building efforts to a new level. There are many sellers of eBooks that peddle useless information like it was the secret to life. Selling eBooks on eBay should be a trust building experience that starts with having a quality product to offer, and ends with a proper listing.
Spicing up your eBay listings for eBooks is not hard to do, and can be done once, and reused over, and over again. The more repetition you have creating quality listings, the easier it will be for you in the long run. EBook eBay listings should consist of at least three items to make your listings pop; cover picture, your picture, and a preview of the text.
Most eBook products that are allowed to be resold on eBay will come with a cover image file that you can use to promote your product with. If you don’t have a cover image file, you can create one easily with some basic photo editing software, of you can buy a cover for as little as twenty dollars. The cover image will help make your listing official looking, and give the customer a visual image to put with your product title. This image should be used as your gallery photo when listing your eBooks on eBay.
Your picture while not as important as the cover photo, is still very important to help enhance your listings looks. A picture of yourself will add authenticity to the product, and give the listing some much needed emotional appeal. The picture of you should be dignified, not you at last summers beach barbeque, but you in a suit, or a button down blouse. Having a picture of yourself will give the buyers more confidence to buy when looking at your eBook eBay listings.
Finally include a preview of the eBooks contents in your listing. Don’t just give the eBay members a table of contents; try to give them a sample chapter, or two to help them understand why they must own your product.

Not a day goes past when I here of some seller frustrated that eBay have pulled their auction listing. It is very easy to violate an eBay listing guideline without knowing, the first you’ll learn about it is when you receive an email from eBay.
If it’s a serious violation or a number of smaller repeated violated eBay can & will close down or suspend your account. Don’t be fooled into thinking they need your revenue as a seller, I know of one eBay power seller who paid close to £25,000 per year to eBay in sellers fees & had his account closed overnight.
Firstly and most importantly familiarize yourself with all the selling guidelines on eBay. By doing things right first time, you’ll be less likely to have your auctions cancelled by eBay’s safe harbour team.
But let’s image the worse case scenario, you’re an eBay trading assistant or a professional seller dependant on eBay and overnight eBay close your account, pulling all your listings in the process. Overnight your business will disappear.
Don’t fool yourself that by sticking strictly to eBay guidelines you’ll avoid the hassle. You’ll have many competitors on eBay who will try and report you at some point, even if their accusation is false your listing may be pulled by an overzealous eBay employee.
Leaving eBay listing violations alone there are still potential hazards that may jeopardize your account or account status. Negative feedback, your account being hi-jacked, even forgetting your account password could cause massive delays to your business. If you get too much negative feedback, you may want to abandon the account altogether and start afresh.
eBay does allow you to have more than one registered account as long as it using another email address, so it is essential to have at least one backup account for emergency use. Keep one registered for a spare account and also remember to consider that eBay does not use allow certain selling features (Buy-It-Now, Featured Plus) to be used until your feedback is at a certain level - normally 10 for the most widely used features. It may be worth buying a few low priced items to get your feedback to the required level.
If you are suspended from selling eBay guidelines states the following:
“Members who are suspended are prohibited from registering new accounts with eBay, or bidding or selling on eBay using any existing accounts. eBay reserves the right to suspend existing accounts as well as new accounts opened by anyone in the same household of a suspended user or by any other associates of a suspended user.”
Now I’m sure that 99% of eBay sellers, especially serious sellers (like yourself) reading this would not violate rules to a degree where your account was suspended. And I’m not recommending you to continue selling on eBay even though your were suspended.
BUT, what I will say is in the unlikely event this did happen what would you do?
You have an obligation to your clients, yourself and your business to get things back on track as soon as possible. Having an eBay account registered in the name of a distantly located friend which you can use discreetly may allow you to keep your business long enough to sort out your original problem with eBay.
Some situations can be sorted out within hours, while others carry an automatic suspension for 30 days. Now, no business can afford to stop trading for 30 days & expect to carry on when the suspension is lifted as if nothing has happened. You’ll lose credibility, you’ll lose money and most importantly you will have lost a lot of clients.

Ebay offers a variety of listing formats which you may not be familiar with. If your new to eBay, the different selling formats can become confusing. Below, are a definition of eBays listing format.
Auction Style
An Auction Style format is what eBay is best known for. Sellers list their items for 1,3,5,7, or 10 days and bidders are open to bid at any stage of the auction until it expires. At the end of the auction, the member which has bid the highest amount wins the auction.
Buy-It-Now
Buy-It-Now format is used for items to be offered at a fixed price. No bidding is required for Buy-It-Now items, the price is set by the seller and interested parties simply choose to buy it at that price. As soon as a bidders purchases the Buy-It-Now item, the listing is over. Sellers can also list multiple items using Buy-It-Now, in which case the listing runs until all the items are sold or until the auction expires. Like auction listings, Buy-It-Now items can be listed for 1,3,5,7 or 10 days.
Shop Inventory
This option is only available to sellers who maintain an eBay shop. Shop inventory is similar to Buy-It-Now items in that they are of a fixed price but the listings can last for upto 90 days. Shop inventory is cheaper for sellers to list but with the disadvantage items get less visibility from bidders.
Classified Ads
Classified Ads is a new concept to eBay and only available to motor dealers registered with eBay who also subscribe to the eBay motor Pro package. This is neither an auction format, or a buy-it-now format and sellers simply email the dealer for more information about the vehicle. Unusually any deal is completed away from eBay with classified ads. Most experts suggest eBay has introduced classified ads for registered motor dealers so ebay can compete further with sites such as AutoTrader.
Want It Now
Want It Now is another recent addition by eBay. It allows users who are searching for specific items to create an listing based on their needs. Like other listing formats, you are required to pick an eBay category and describe the item you want. It is then up to interested sellers to email the buyers with an active link to an auction for item they are searching for. As a seller, want it now could potentially become a very powerful tool to complete sales on eBay & connect with interested parties.

Ebay is widely considered the digital flea-market of the Internet. But for many savvy infopreneurs, Ebay is a goldmine. And to them, selling ebooks on eBay is wildly profitable.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying they are banking big checks from selling ebooks on eBay at $1 for a bundle of 100 of them! No. These smart infopreneurs are looking on eBay in the right sense - as a huge gathering place of eager, ready to buy customers.
You could get into their midst, scream yourself hoarse about your ebooks, and make a few sales. Or you could go about the process of segmenting and selling your ebooks to the perfect targets - and make a lot more sales at far less effort or expense.
To get it right, you need to understand the process.
#1 - Having your product funnel
Are you planning to get rich by selling your ebook on ebay for $19 - and doing it over and over, many times? Forget that. It’s hard work.
Instead, create your own product funnel. This means having a series of products or services - ebooks, reports, courses, homestudy programs, seminars, coaching and mentoring sessions and more - on the theme of your expertise.
#2 - Segment your audience
Then, write an ebook and offer it for sale on eBay - at a mouth-watering low price that’s hard to resist.
This is the wide mouth of the funnel, designed to attract as many interested prospects who are good candidates for buying your other products and service. The main purpose of your ebook here is to find those people on eBay who are interested in your niche or theme.
#3 - Educate your buyers about the value you offer
Once you’ve got a list of customers from selling ebooks on eBay, communicate with them regularly. Give them valuable information, coaching, education and resources to improve their life. While you do this, educate them about the value you offer.
For instance, don’t just give away a collection of links to helpful websites. First, mention how you spent 14 hours surfing the Web, checking out hundreds of other websites, looking for only the very best resources that offered the highest value without wasting a user’s time. Then share how you sifted through the list, and compiled the best of the lot into this special report, which you are sharing with only valued clients, because you care about them!
#4 - Sell your eBay list your higher value items
Once you have established a trusting relationship with the list you build from selling ebooks on eBay, you can now offer them more value at a higher price point and still have a fair number of them take you up on it.
This sequential approach has helped you turn a $1 buyer on eBay into a life-long client who willingly spends increasingly higher amounts with you because you offer more value.
Selling ebooks on eBay is not a route to instant profits. But if you know what you’re doing and have a structured approach to business building, it can be very lucrative. eBay being a dynamic marketplace, things change very rapidly. To stay on top of things, you must constantly study and educate yourself on the nuances of being a better infopreneur. This way, you can make eBay your goldmine too.

One Internet Marketing wise saying is, the money is in the list. This reason is important in growing your list rapidly. In reality, your list building should be a never-ending business project, which is ongoing. Otherwise you may encounter a wearing away of your list by loosing subscribers. You can build your list in many different ways.
For instance blogging, pay per click advertising and article marketing are all good methods of building an effective marketing list. These methods are not included in this article, however. Rather this article revolves around inexpensively using eBay as the resource to tap into while building your list. Ebay has an enormous potential for attracting traffic, with nearly 8 million visitors daily while supporting 200 million registered users, by using eBay to grow your list you will be able to attract those who are interested in joining your list.
Ebay offers two different methods in which to grow your list. With the first you create and sell ebooks or small reports in the buy it now auction format. You can set a minimum price and sell multiple items at $.99 each; therefore, you are essentially giving away these particular ebooks and small reports, which provide useful information to your buyers. While creating these small reports or ebooks be sure to display links to your squeeze page of your list. When creating these reports, remember they should be informative, yet leave the reader wanting more. If done in a pleasing manner, they will sign up for your list.
When writing your small reports or ebooks, be sure to mention that the buyer can give away these documents however, they cannot alter them in any way, and this may result in more signups in the end. Remember, you are not really trying to make a great deal of money with these reports; rather you are growing your marketing list.
Since the insertion and selling fees on eBay are relatively low, this can be a very cost effective way to get sign ups to your list and if you sell enough reports or ebooks, you may turn a small profit while simultaneously growing your list. You can also use the classified ad format on eBay. Many who use eBay; often overlook this type of ad format; however, it is quite simple and economically sound when growing your list.
The set up for a classified ad is set up much like a standard auction. An ad will run for thirty days rather than three, seven and ten days. Of course, the title is subject to the search engine of eBay as are all their auctions. It is essential to optimize your ad title. HTML is welcome here, so you can paste the code for your squeeze page, which contains the opt-in subscriber form in your advertisement. A classified ad cares an insertion fee of $9.95 for 30 days.
You can choose a Pro Pack when offering your classified ad, it costs a bit more, but equals out to around a dollar a day in advertisement. Purchasing a 7 day, Pro Pack comes to around four dollars per day. Making use of the classified ad format is a wallet friendly method to use when growing your list. No doubt, there are other eBay features to use when growing a list, however, these methods are much more cost effective than buying leads or pay per click advertising, while bringing in a small profit, at least enough to cover any eBay fees you may encounter while using eBay as a tool to grow your list.

Many online auction marketers do not fully understand how important pricing is when selling products on eBay. Often times, they do not even realize that pricing will make or break them in the competitive eBay environment. In order to be successful in online auctions such as eBay you need do your research and establish a plan that insures your success. This includes setting effective prices.
Basically, you need to establish up to three prices for an eBay auction. They include a buy it now price, a reserve price, and a starting bid price. Of these, the starting bid price is the only one that is required by eBay. The reserve price and the buy it now price are optional. The starting bid price is really quite simple. I recommend that you never set it higher than $50 no matter what your item is really worth. This low opening price will attract bidders to your auction.
One thing to keep in mind when you do this is that when you set a low starting bid price you will need to create a reserve price. The reserve price is the lowest price that you will accept from someone that wants to buy your product. If you choose, you can sell the item below the reserve price but it is not a requirement. For example, if you set your reserve price at $100, and your highest bid is only $50, you do not have to sell the item to the highest bidder. You can simply close the auction without any further obligation on your part. I recommend that you set your reserve price at the absolute lowest price you are willing to sell your item.
The buy it now option permits you to set a price that allows a buyer to purchase your item immediately without bidding. This option can be used for any type of item, and it should be set to match your reserve, give or take a few dollars. This option is great if you have multiple identical items to sell such as information products.
Another item to keep in mind when you are setting your price is that buyers will take shipping prices into consideration when they are looking at an auction item. With that said, if you can offer free or at least low cost shipping you will receive more bids leading to more sales. Make sure that you advertise this low-to-no cost benefit to your eBay auction bidders!
Lastly, before setting any auction price you need to determine what the item is really worth not to mention how much it costs you to buy at wholesale. So, do your research and determine what similar items are selling for on eBay before and factor in your profit margin before setting your price. If you are listing collectables or a high dollar item, I always recommend that you have the item appraised prior to make sure that you do not lose money on the sale.
To Your eBay Auction Success.
